Ayrson Heráclito (Macaúbas, BA, 1968). É artista, professor e curador. Possui doutorado em Comunicação e Semiótica pela PUC São Paulo, e mestrado em Artes Visuais pela UFBA. Com um olhar particular, a obra de Heráclito evidencia as raízes afro-brasileiras e seus elementos sagrados, projetando ações e práticas que compõem a história e a cultura da população negra.

Seus trabalhos transitam entre instalações, performances, fotografias e produções audiovisuais que lidam com as conexões entre o continente africano e as diásporas negras nas Américas. O corpo é um elemento central de sua pesquisa, empregando referências rituais, principalmente do candomblé, como dendê, carne, açúcar e sangue, buscando relacioná-los ao patrimônio histórico e arquitetônico ligado ao comércio escravista.

O ensaio fotográfico Agué: Narrativas de Avivi integra as investigações do artista, que compreende a produção de imagens como um devir ritual, a partir da cosmopercepção afro-brasileira dos òrìsás.

Ayrson Heráclito (Macaúbas, Bahia, 1968) is an artist, professor and curator. He has a PHD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC São Paulo, and a master's degree in Visual Arts from UFBA. With a very particular look, Heráclito’s work highlights the Afro-Brazilian roots and their sacred elements, projecting actions and practices that build up the history and culture of the black population.

His works shift between installations, performances, photographs and audiovisual productions that deal with the connections between the African continent and the black diasporas in the Americas. The body is a central element of his research, employing ritual references, mainly from Candomblé, such as dendê palm oil, meat, sugar and blood, as it seeks to relate them to the historical and architectural heritage linked to the slave trade. Between 2008 and 2011, he produced the series entitled “Bori”, which means “offer to the head”. This performance presents a kind of rite in which Heráclito offers the sacrificial food linked to each of the 12 main orixás. Foods such as corn, popcorn, okra, rice and fava beans are placed around the head of each performer, who is lying on straw mats and dressed in white clothes.
